About NTUEDS.
National Taiwan University English Debate Society (NTUEDS) was founded in March, 2011 by a group of 12 core members led by Lily Lin. First experiencing the grandeur of English debate in WENZAO English Debate Workshop, Lily as well as other co-founding members decided to establish NTUEDS in hopes of promoting English debate-a life-enriching activity that explores a great variety of world issues, polishes logical thinking and public speaking-for a greater popularity in northern Taiwan. In May 2011, the founding team participated in the first intervarsity English debate tournament, and won the championship along with four top-speaker awards. In August the same year, five founding members attended the prestigious 10-day English debate workshop held by Asian Debate Institute in Seoul, South Korea, where they honed their debating skills with world-level lecturers and fellow debaters from across Asia. This experience strengthened their determination to bring back what they learned from abroad and make NTUEDS a better place for learning debate.
Since the establishment of NTUEDS, the founding team has accomplished, without a precedence to follow, a wide range of achievements including designing curricula, innovating methodologies in teaching, planning strategies to promote, holding freshman cups for members in the NTUEDS, etc. Such efforts have appealed to many students and helped NTUEDS quickly expand to a big happy family. In June 2012, Christina Kuo and her new staff members extended the English debate network in northern Taiwan. Equally inspired and devoted as those who preceded them, the 2013 staff members led by Doris Chu have managed to host the NTU national English debate tournament in May and to organize an English debate workshop this upcoming July, both unprecedented and remarkable.
NTUEDS encourages members to participate in a great variety of workshops and tournaments home and abroad, including the annual WENZAO English debate workshop, ADI workshop in South Korea, North East Asian Open (NEAO), ICUT in Japan etc. With greatest sincerity, NTUEDS staff welcomes every one of you to explore the splendid world of English debate with us!
